⁹ But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor^(A) because he suffered death,^(B) so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.^(C)

¹⁰ In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists,^(D) should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered.^{(E) 11} Both the one who makes people holy^(F) and those who are made holy^(G) are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.^{[a](H) 12} He says,

¹³ And again,

And again he says,

¹⁴ Since the children have flesh and blood,^(L) he too shared in their humanity^(M) so that by his death he might break the power^(N) of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil^(O)— ¹⁵ and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear^(P) of death. ¹⁶ For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants.^{(Q) 17} For this reason he had to be made like them,^[e](R) fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful^(S) and faithful high priest^(T) in service to God,^(U) and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.^{(V) 18} Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.^(W)

Jesus the Great High Priest

¹⁴ Therefore, since we have a great high priest^(A) who has ascended into heaven,^[a](B) Jesus the Son of God,^(C) let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.^{(D) 15} For we do not have a high priest^(E) who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are^(F)—yet he did not sin.^{(G) 16} Let us then approach^(H) God’s throne of grace with confidence,^(I) so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

²² Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant.^(A)

²³ Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; ²⁴ but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood.^{(B) 25} Therefore he is able to save^(C) completely^[a] those who come to God^(D) through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.^(E)

²⁶ Such a high priest^(F) truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners,^(G) exalted above the heavens.^{(H) 27} Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices^(I) day after day, first for his own sins,^(J) and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all^(K) when he offered himself.^{(L) 28} For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness;^(M) but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son,^(N) who has been made perfect^(O) forever.

A Call to Persevere in Faith

¹⁹ Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence^(A) to enter the Most Holy Place^(B) by the blood of Jesus,
